He was not very tall. So when I was facing the camera with him in Sharda, he said, ‘Go remove your four inch sandals and stand barefoot!’ Every film of his is a lesson in cinema be it Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai or Satyam Shivam Sundaram. He was jovial and loved his food and booze. He always wore a white shirt and pant. He’d often remember Nargis. Once we were shooting when he suddenly looked at the calendar and said, ‘Aaj Baby ki saalgirah hai (today is Baby’s birthday)’. How can you forget a person you’ve known for long?
