Nargis was down-to- earth and humble. She’d always wear white saris, tie her hair in a jooda (bun) and wear gajras (flowers). She never wore lipstick. Once I was shooting for her brother Anwar Hussain’s film when he came and said, “Baby has got married.” The next day a newspaper carried a photograph of Dutt saab (Sunil) and her. Dutt saab was sona (gold)! I remember going to see her at the hospital when she was about to deliver Sanju (Sanjay Dutt). She was sitting on the bed with a big tummy. She said, ‘Hai! Kabhi se intezar kar rahi hoon (I’ve been waiting for so long)!
