Miscellaneous Info – Shahina was the daughter of well known music director/actor Rafiq Ghaznavi [who acted in and composed the music of many Bollywood films of the 1930s and 1940s). Shahina was introduced as a leading lady in Masud Pervaiz’s Beli (1950) opposite Santosh Kumar. The film was based on Saadat Hasan Manto’s short story about the perils of the 1947 exodus. The memories of partition were still too fresh for the general public, therefore, the film flopped. The same year, Amin Malik’s cast her as a heroine opposite the leading comedian of his time – Nazar in Judai. Judai flopped too and that ruined Shahina’s chances to play the lead in future. She was relegated to supporting roles, of which Inteqam (1955) and Aankh Ka Nasha (1957) are memorable.
She passed away on January 11th 2004.
