Nargis and Motilal in Taqdeer (1943)

Taqdeer (1943) was Nargis’ first film as the lead actress. She was only 13-14 when she was cast in this film. Here she is seen with much older Motilal. O janey waley aaja was the first ‘hit’ song picturized on Nargis. Here Shamshad Begum is signing for Nargis and Motilal is singing for himself, music by Rafiq Ghaznavi. At that time Nargis’ onscreen voice was Shamshad Begum. Shamshad sang immortal songs for Nargis in many films including Mela (1948), Aag (1948), Babul (1950) and Deedar (1951), before Lata Mangeshkar took over.
