I filtered my master Hindi Film Database from 1931 – 2010 (excluding the silents from 1931 – 1935) and I came out with the following numbers -
Total Number of Hindi Films Produced – 9418 (approx)
If each film had an average of 7 songs, then approximate number of Hindi film songs composed so far – greater than 65000
Playback singers from the Golden Era who sang more than 1000 songs in Hindi Films -

Please Note – By conservative estimates, Noor Jehan’s song output in Pakistan is somewhere around 3000 songs in Urdu AND Punjabi films. However, I am not sure of her approximate output in Urdu/Hindi films. Therefore, she is not included in the list until further details are available.

Kaleem saab, a small correction. I dont think Rafi sahib outsang Kishore saihb in the 70s. Rafi sahib sang around 4200 songs in his liftime with 1300+ songs in 50s, 1500+ songs in 60s and around 900 songs in 70s. Balance 500 songs were distributed between 40s and 80s. Kishore sahib sang around 2900 songs with around 250 songs in the 40s and 50s, 200 songs in the 60s, 1300 songs in the 70s and 1200 songs in the 80s.
