She was one of the great, powerful and very sweet voices of that period. She was a top playback singer of 1940s, and was used even by Rafique Ghaznavi Ji and Naushad Ji. So, though her volume of songs is not as much as some contemporaries, her use was not one – sided (mass use from a region, like, unfortunately, most of Zeenat Begum Ji’s songs are from the Punjabi side composers). She was credited as Shrimati Ghosh Ji in many films.

Another unique success of hers was, singing 2 songs for great Indo – Pak composer Rashid Attre Jehan Ji in Natija (1947), playback for first heroine Shamim Bano Ji (Zohrabai Ji sang her own wonders for second heroine Rehana Ji). Who could forget the immortal and exquisite “Bigdi Meri Bana Ya Shah-E-Madina”? Rashid Attre Jehan Ji and Feroze Nizami Ji did just 8 and 10 films respectively in India, but did their best to more than 20 singers! Their music was par excellence and they did a great thing by composing for so many great singers, what a lovely variety. Back then, was there even a tinge of dearth for great singers? Up to composers to use well… (other examples are Gyan Dutt Ji and Pandit Gobindram Ji. Mainly in 1940s – Naushad Ji and Shyam Sundar Ji).

I have heard a lot (and love ) two Surendra Ji duets from Vishwas (1943) which was Feroze Nizami Ji’s first film (songs: 1. Sawan Ki Rut Bhaye Sajanwa, 2. Duniya Nayi Basayi Sajni). Though the female singer is mentioned to be Mehtab Ji herself. I strongly feel this is Parul Ghosh Ji. Not only because of the voice, but also, if Mehtab Ji was such an excellent singer and sang 2 top songs of the year with large range, it doesn’t make sense that she didn’t sing in any other film that year! I feel that the mention (even in Geet Kosh) must be because of names of actors rather than singers sometimes mentioned on records. Found you best to confirm with, please help me. Well, if I’m right, this makes Feroze Nizami Ji more favourite to me – since he has used another of my dear singers
