Mainly because the 2 voices are completely different. No female singer on earth would or will ever be able to render Akele na jaana like Mala did. That outstanding song gets straight through to your heart and stays there as long as you live. Likewise, Lata's Bachpan ki muhabbat ko can never be rendered so sweetly by anyone else. Both are great singers of highest caliber. However, Mala never got the recognition or status she deserved. Had she been in India, it's just anyone's guess.
