Dil mein sama gayey sajan – Sangdil (1952) – Raag Rageshri

The song starts with the elementary Rageshri notes: Dh Ni Sa Ga Ma. Sajjad has also used pancham and komal gandhar (notes which are not used in Rageshri but in Bageshri) to create this unique tune.

The composition has the typical waltz rhythm (1 2 3, 1 2 3). In that way, it is more like waltz and less like dadra which too has six beats — dha dhin dha, to dhin na.

Western instruments like clarinet, flute, violins and piano have been used to great effect. The taal, naturally, is dadra – S.M. Shahid
