Kuldip Kaur playing pranks on Kamal Kapoor
Four years ago, when the fun-loving Kuldip Kaur was not as famous a screen personality as she is today, she often used to don a gay plastic raincoat and take a bus-ride from Seven Bungalows to Andheri as soon as the rains came.
Since her rise to fame, however, Kuldip’s fans have not allowed her to indulge in these annual bus-rides.
This year, though, Kuldip could scarcely resist the temptation and donning a burqa, she stepped out into the pouring rain and took a bus at Bandra. It so happened that the seat next to her’s was occupied by Kamal Kapoor, Kuldip’s co-star in “Kashmir” (1951). The incorrigible, impish Kuldip changed her voice and asked Kamal to autograph her bus-ticket, which he did with immense pleasure.
Getting down at Mahim, the irrepressible Kuldip asked Kamal to drop her at Dadar in a taxi. After hesitating a little, Kamal decided to be gallant and hailed a passing cab. At Shri Sound Studios, Kuldip, still hidden behind the burqa, got down and asked Kamal to wait for her.
Of course, Kuldip never returned, and no one knows how long Kamal waited for her.
After Kuldip had told the story to her pals at the studio, poor Kamal was the butt-end of their jokes for days on end (Source – Filmfare – 1954).
