Interesting Facts – K.D. Mehra and Pind Di Kuri (1935)
K.D. Mehra directed the first Punjabi film of the sub-continent Sheila a.k.a Pind di Kuri in 1935. Noor Jehan (Baby Noor Jehan) also played a small role in that film. Interestingly, the film was not produced in Lahore (the capital of Punjab at the time), but it was produced in Calcutta. Punjabis remain one of the most dominant groups in Hindi/Urdu Cinema and it wont be wrong to say that they are overly represented in Bollywood and Lollywood.
