Jayashree and Meena T (“T” stands for Talpade, their surname), sisters, began as junior artistes. Jayashree later chose to specialize in dancing (particularly sexy dances) and was an instant success: she is considered among the best dancers on the Hindi screen today. Meena, the elder of the two, showed a flair for acting (“Umang”, “Khilona”, “Jungle Mein Mangal”). Both have a number of assignments on hand – June, 1973

In film vocabulary, “hot” dance numbers and Padma Khanna are synonymous – everybody likes her dances, except Padma herself (that’s what she says anyway). After the “Johny” number, producers want her to strip more and more, and poor Padma has willy nilly to do it. The dusky actress had pinned her hopes on films like the forthcoming “Soudagar”, in which she has to do some acting too – June, 1973

“…Believe me it isn’t a common experience having one’s bra opened by Shatrughan Sinha. It is a very, very different experience. He is simply fabulous… “The mere recounting of her beroom scenes with Shatrughan in “Heera” seemed to send Faryal into a fit of ecstasy.

We hoped he doesn’t oversteps the limits of the script on such occasions.

“Shatru?” No. Premnath does. In ‘Gold Medal’ there is a scene-of both of us lying on a sofa. But during the shot he rolled down on to the carpet taking me along with him! Believe me, that wasn’t in the script. Several minutes passed and still the shot was not getting over. Everyone including the director Ravi Nagaich and Jeetendra, was watching the fun and having a good laugh when I got up and shouted ‘Will someone say cut, bloody soon?’ Premnath was the least bothered himself: poor chap, he gets drowned in his roles. I am terrified to work with him. Though I know he is a tremendous artist.” – June, 1973

Bindu is the femme fatale, that character without whom none of our films can seemingly be complete, and she generally goes hand-in-hand with Prem Chopra. She has brought a sort of effortless bitchiness to her roles – whether the scene’s a cabaret, striptease, or just throwing seductive glances – and it has caught the fancy of both producers and audiences. Following “Dastaan” she has a number of straight acting assignments – June, 1973
