Miscellaneous Info - If Ranjana - that chirpy, cleavage-toting heroine of Hindi film "Chhaani" - resembled Sandhya in looks there was a reason. She was Sandhya's niece (daughter of her elder sister Vatsala Deshmukh, a stage and screen actress herself). The mother apparently tried to keep Ranjana away from films, but didn't succeed.

V. Shantaram first cast Ranjana when she was just 12, in his Marathi films, "Iye Marathichiye Nagari". He also cast her in "Chandanachi Choli" and later as the leading lady of "Zunj", both in Marathi.

A graduate from Bombay, Ranjana was also keen on a career in Hindi films. She appeared in few Hindi films including Chhaani (1977) and Jhanjhaar (1987), but without any major success.

Ranjana Deshmukh's career came to an abrupt end in 1987 in a car accident while she was on her way to a film shoot in Bangalore. Ranjana's left arm and legs were paralyzed in the accident. She later starred in a play Fakta Ekdach, as a wheelchair-using woman who is deserted by her lover.

Ranjana died of a heart attack at her residence at Shivaji Park in central Mumbai, India. She was 45.
