Miscellaneous Info – Akhtari (aka Akhtar) was a Lahore based starlet who acted in many films produced at Lahore before and after partition. Notable films to her credit include Jhumke (1946) and Hichkolay (1949). The story of Jhumke (1946) was penned by Saadat Hasan Manto and was later remade in Pakistan as Badnaam (1966). Akhtari’s performance in Jhumke was reviewed quite positively by FilmIndia. According to the review by FilmIndia, “Akhtari, who plays, Krishna Kumari, the heroine of the first story, acquits herself pretty well, but we must give her a couple of years more to enable her to acquire the glamour of sex”.

In Do Kinaray (1950), perhaps Akhtari’s last film, she was cast opposite Indian actor Suresh.
