Aasiya

Aasiya

Lovely and versatile Aasiya began her career just before the advent of the 1970s, when Pakistan already had some very powerful performers like Zeba, Shamim Ara, Deeba, Rani and Rozina. Nisho, Sangeeta and Aasiya joined the ranks almost at the same time. Aasiya had a couple of good movies in the early phase, when she performed as the leading lady in romantic social movies like Dil Aur Dunya and Insan Aur Aadmi. Later, she worked in some of the more adventurous movies like Road To Swat, where her acting improved and she was finally paired with the top heroes of the country like Waheed Murad, Nadeem, Shahid and Mohammad Ali, in films like Tum Salamat Raho, Pazeib, Sehre Ke Phool, Mehboob Mera Mastana etc. Later, during the 1980s, as the Punjabi films took control of the cinema, the pretty actress had to don the lacha kurta, to play the rural jatti. What catapulted her to a prominent place in Punjabi films was Maula Jatt with Sultan Rahi. Later, Wehshi Gujjar and other such violent movies gave her lots of hits, but lesser chances for performances. In Urdu film Aag, she was presented with a Nigar Award for a brilliant performance. Unfortunately, very soon, she left the industry, after marriage – (Source – Mag The Weekly – Karachi)
